2023
Tanzania | Mali
Benin | Burkina Faso
During 2023, Blossom Together expanded its projects into a new country - Tanzania, where they continued the efforts they had begun in West Africa. For nearly three weeks, a team of 12 college students led an expedition to the East African country, visiting and assisting in the various projects they completed in the region. In addition, the team completed projects in Mali, Benin, and Burkina Faso, building water wells, funding and assisting in cataract surgeries, and preparing and distributing food packages.
Water Wells
Both in Tanzania and Benin, Blossom Together opened several water wells this year. The team personally travelled for the opening of the wells in Tanzania while our partners on-ground administered the responsibility in Benin. As always, the location and construction of these wells are specifically designed to address those in most need for a period of 10-15 years.
Cataract Surgeries
In addition, for the third year in a row, Blossom Together raised funding for cataract surgeries in Mali and Tanzania, in partnership with Gaoussana Fofana and Clinic Planet Vision in Mali and the International Eye Hospital in Tanzania.
Food Packages & School Visits
Lastly, the team funded, prepared, and distributed food packages in Burkina Faso and Tanzania. Along with the packages, they also visited several elementary schools to spend time with the children (playing soccer, basketball, etc.) and hand out candy.
Activities
Upon completion of all the tasks, the team took some time to travel and appreciate the many natural and cultural beauties of Tanzania. From Mikumi National Park to Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar, the team enjoyed safaris, hot springs, islands, and many other unique experiences.
